Colt 1862 Police Model. 36 Caliber percussion revolver with 6 1/2 inch barrel inscribed "C.W. Kelly, H.F.A., from his Hudson ST, M.E.S. school". This revolver from the estate of a collector who purchased it from the auction sale by Little John's of the John Ewald collection. John Ewald was a major southern California collector in the 1980's and 90's of historic artifacts from the Civil War. Research and papers have been lost and no information on the inscription could be located. It is sure to have association with an educational institution where Kelly taught, probably in New York. The revolver has a gray metal patina with evidence of vigorous cleaning and battle use. Serial #7136 with matching visible numbers. Address and patent date are visible and grips fi t well also. Grips showing light cleaning but no sanding. Action good and N.R.A. Good overall. May be a sleeper!
