Mid-19th Century Bowie Knife marked “Edward Barnes & Sons celebrated dirk knife” with heavy stock semi-spear point blade also marked on left fl at “Manufactured by Edward Barnes & Sons” in two-line ribband. The blade measures 8 inches and the knife is 13 1/4 inches overall. Thick steel guard with coffin shaped Rosewood grip and German silver ferrel (crude W scratched on each side possible original owner). The condition is good to very good, with sharp markings and darkish uncleaned patina. The scabbard is associated and of the same period but for a larger clipped point blade ½ inch

to 1 inch longer. The scabbard is a very good fit and appears to have been carried and used with this knife. Civil War era or slightly earlier.
