Gold Decorated Royal Flintlock Pistols

Pair of magnificent gold decorated royal flintlock pistols signed Franz Breit-Enfelter circa first quarter of 18th century. Breit was a master Carlsbad gun maker to royalty and a 7 pointed crown is inlaid into plaque at top of wrist. The seven points denote the highest royal ranking of either crown prince or a king. 

The pair measure 21 inches overall with 14 inch barrels and approximately 62 caliber smoothbore. The gold damascene work is intricate and of the highest quality showing stands of arms, cupids, buglers and other figurals surrounded with intricate and fine scroll covering 75% of the metal surfaces. This elaborate pair are stocked in rich stump walnut with raised carving and show attractive burl in the grain of the wood stocks. The condition is fine to excellent retaining all the gold decoration and most of the fire blue finish. Also the ramrods are the originals showing matching gold decoration on their tips to the decoration on the muzzle of the pistols. 

Eric Vaule noted European arms dealer and expert stated this pair were “the best of type” and he kept them in his vault for over a decade.
