-SOLD-Elgin Patent Cuttless Pistol

$14,000.00

Rare and early Elgin patent Cuttless Pistol manufactured by Merrill, Mosman and Blair refer to Flayderman 7C 016 with ultra-desirable 13 inch Bowie / Cuttless blade believed to have been made by Ames sword company. Our consigner's tag states it was purchased from Little John's auction approximately 25 years ago and was consigned by James Wurtenburger who obtained it from the Sam Smith collection. The monograph on elgin states numbered (2 – illegible) on the interior and submitted to the government for trials. Restoration to lock and hammer. Unfortunately, our customer who wrote the tag has passed away, and we have been unable to locate the monograph on Elgins or any references other than the Flayderman guide.

The condition is very good, with a smooth gray patina showing minor erosion and pitting. The barrel is 7 inches and 31 caliber, and the pistol measures 18 inches overall. The wood is a very good plus, and the lock area shows restoration and re-patination. Action works well.

Authentic American Cutless pistols of this size are extremely rare and should be considered a museum-grade collectible. Absolutely genuine.
