-SOLD-Colt 1851 Navy 36 Caliber Percussion Revolver

$2,150.00

Colt 1851 Navy 36 Caliber Percussion Revolver U. S. Marked with original holster marks, P - SUTCLIFF - Maker S. B. Ventura (California) Serial #50662.

The revolver shows an old cleaning and is now a gray metal light colored patina, and the grips show old checkering with initial M on the bottom of each grip. The markings are sharp and legible and the metal shows good edges. No cylinder screen remains. The wedge is a replacement and the wedge screen sheared off. The U.S. on frame is well defined and inspection marks l and k on trigger guard all matching visible serial numbers. Action works well, and nipples are replaced. The grips show small losses and heel and one larger chip from right toe, but otherwise good

The rare Southern California marked gold rush holster is all but used up, and the condition is fair to poor. Note: I have sold one other Sutcliff marked California holster to Ventura collector “Dick” Birddick in the 1990s for $6,000 that was in very good condition, and we agreed that we knew of only six Santa Barbara and Ventura California marked percussion holsters to have been sold in 25 years to that point.

An intriguing California Gold Rush era rig with a lot of character (Way more than any politician since Reagan). $2,150 for both.
