Civil war ensemble belonging to Brigadier General William A. Adams of 145th Indiana infantry. The ensemble consists of the following: 



  1. His commission to brigadier dated May 22, 1866 signed by Andrew Johnson as president and Edwin M. Stanton secretary of war with tin container

 

      2. 1860 Variant pattern officer's sword with pierced iron guard and marked Fitch and Waldo (agents) New York with Claubereg in Solingen makers mark on reverse. The blade is etched with eagle E. pluribus unum and U.S.  the condition is good and uncleaned with deep brown patina. Copper wire wrap over shank skin grip is very good plus to almost fine. Just minor imperfections with normal aging. 

 

     3. Friend photograph of General Adams on paper in vintage frame of 19th century. Measures 14 inches by 11 ¼ inches and fair condition only with fading and spotting. 

 

History — General William A. Adams commanded the 145th regiment Indiana Infantry was organized in Indianapolis and moved to Nashville, Tennessee then moved to Chattanooga and then south to Georgia. He enlisted as a Second Lieutenant at the age of 21 in 1861 and rose through the ranks to Brigadier General. 

 

Obtained from General Adams descendants in 2023 and fresh to market as 1st time offered for sale out of the family's possession. $3000 as lot
