Boutet Flintlock Shotgun
French double barrel flintlock shotgun signed on both locks Manafacture d’ Versailles made under the direction of Boutet. Circa 1793 - 1805. Boutet was a royal gun maker to Louis the 16th and Emperor Napoleon. This gun is fully silver mounted with 3 small hallmarks showing French Rooster, initials C.C. and a cow's head. This gun shows empire styling and is half stocked in burled walnut featuring an excellent carved boar's head extending from the grip past the wrist. All original flintlock parts with crisp engraving on the locks and hammers. The barrels show a European browned finish that is correctly restored. There is minor cleaning and small repairs. A correct and original horned tipped ramrod is retained. The locks function well and is usable as a shotgun. 20 gauge bores and the gun measures 44 ½ inches overall with 29 inch barrels weighing a total of 7 to 7 ½ pounds. There is a small rose gold plaque inlaid at the wrist which a crest or initials polished off many years ago.
