-SOLD-1849 Colt Pocket Model.

$2,600.00

1849 Colt Pocket Model. Inscribed "L.W. Satchwell Co. D" on back strap 5-inch barrel, gray patina fi nish, wood grips, serial # 38760 with an x stamp below the number on the trigger guard. Formerly in the John Ewald Civil War collection sold at auction in the 1990's in Anaheim, California, to another collectors estate where research was lost. This early gold rush era 49 has an original to the period inscription reminiscent of Colt Dragoons and early small guard navies. It is my recollection another gun and sword existed with the same inscription. The overall condition is N.R.A good with light to moderate pitting and cleaning to gray metal. Grips are very good with most original vanish remaining and just minor losses and small imperfections. The visible serial numbers are matching. The markings are good, butt screw is missing. Mr. Ewald was a top collector who loved history, and this inscription is bound to yield fruitful research.
